Day 1: SOOC (30 Day Photography Challenge)

30 Day Photography Challenge

Birmingham, AL (2009)

So I’ve been flicking around with Flickr. All of my photos are scattered around in various places, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a Flickr account so that I could have a repository of all of them.

I’m also trying to find a way to push my very limited envelope of photography knowledge and ran across a Flickr group for the “30 Day Photography Challenge” so I thought I’d give it a go. There was another one for 365, but an entire year’s worth of regimented photography seems a bit…daunting.

Today I decided to start by posting an old photo that I took in 2009 while traveling back and forth for a movie shoot in Birmingham, AL. I remember being intimidated by finding my way around the city (as small-town girls are often are) but after only a few trips I found that I could navigate with the best of ’em, getting to where I needed to go mostly by trial and intuition…and finding out that streets labeled “north” and “south” actually reference a section of the city, not necessarily the north or south end of the street.

I wish I could remember which building this was, but I recall being so proud of the unaltered image that came out of this building in particular. The sun was setting and there was a little bit of a haze in the sky, which gave some great color to an otherwise completely gray and imposing structure.
