Sound Alike | Coldplay vs. Underworld

Choose Life

I heard the latest single off of Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” EP and I was struck (like, Looney-Tunes-frying-pan-over-the-head struck) at how very similar it sounded to that song.

You know…that song in Trainspotting where Renton and Spud are running through the streets of Edinburgh and dodging cars? Yeah. That hyper little number that was the epitome of dance music circa 1996.

As soon as I heard “Teardrop” I just knew that they had sampled “Born Slippery” and I’d be able to Google it and find out the details. Well, I googled and googled and still haven’t come up with anything.

Therefore, I submit to the court, Exhibit A: Underworld’s “Born Slippery”.

And if it may please the court, I also would like to admit Exhibit B into evidence: Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop is A Waterfall”.

Thoughts? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose life.

  1. Thanks for this. I’n quite disappointed that not enough artists get called out on their music plagiarism! Most people think that these artists are creative and original but in reality they just steal and don’t give credit to the original artists! No doubt this song is a pretty good song but at least cite the original work.

  2. I had the same exact thought when I heard that Coldplay song! I was like, “is this from Trainspotting?!” And a friend looked at the soundtrack and it wasn’t on there. So I was confused because it was so similar. Glad to know other people noticed!

  3. I’m so happy to hear this, the first time I happen to hear that Coldplay song I couldn’t believe how much Of a rip off that piece of shit song is…coldplay sucks
